CarGo

A new internal tools app for vehicle transporters

CASE STUDY COMING VERY VERY SOON

BACK

Overview

Carvana has many proprietary apps which allows the business to scale with its vertical integration. However our vehicle transporters (who hauls vehicles across the country) are still using Quintiq, an antiquated and expensive software that doesn’t cater to our specific market operational needs. In order to decrease SG&A and increase our control over the workflow, we created the CarGo mobile app.

Design Vision

Quintiq's interface is dense and unintuitive, bombarding users with information while neglecting critical priorities. Poor accessibility further complicates use for field workers in varied environments. My goal is to create an accessible and intuitive UI with a clear, guided workflow to promote task efficiency and minimize errors. This way our drivers can get on the road quicker and get more vehicles out to our customers.

Challenges

Our vehicle transporters are not tech savvy nor do they have the time and patience to go through a complex workflow since they’re paid by trips and not by the hour. On the flip side, it’s imperative for them to load and unload vehicles safely since any damages to the vehicles or to themselves could be catastrophic.

Expected Impact

  • Increase explicit signal for trips to 90% for more accurate inventory tracking

  • Increase on time vehicle delivery and hence customer satisfaction down the line

  • Increase vehicle transporter’s satisfaction score (currently 2.4 out of 5)

  • Reduce the support needed

Role

I led the end to end designs with close collaboration with PMs, market operational leaders and director of the product team.
